Driving the ball far is the one thing we all want to do as golfers and golf fans. Dustin Johnson is one of the longest hitters of our time, and he proved it yet again with a massive, 400+ yard bomb at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone CC.
When they say “drive for show, putt for dough”, the show part of the quote was on full display after the 2016 U.S. Open champ’s drive. He hits it like it’s nothing, as the ball hits nothing but fairway on the legendary course.
There are certain players in Long Drive who hit that far but put a little more speed and power in their swings. Johnson’s swing is fast, but he isn’t swinging out of his shoes.
Some might say it’s the equipment, but a good driver is really going to give you no more than 10 extra yards off the tee, not 100. It was a beautiful drive that almost broke Twitter.
It’s just another example of how we become enamored with powerful drives off the tee. We simply enjoy things that go “hard”, and Johnson certainly did that with that tee ball.
