REVIEW: Snell “My Tour” Golf Balls are the sport’s secret weapon

The golf ball market has become a giant, with millions of dollars spent on golf balls each year. There are a ton of exciting new brands that continue to pop up across the golf landscape, and one of those is Snell.

Snell is a brand that has continued to grow in popularity since it started in 2015. Dean Snell, the company’s Founder, is no stranger when it comes to high-quality golf balls, as he is the co-inventor of the iconic Pro V1 golf balls by Titleist.

The goal of Snell is simple, and that’s to create a professional quality golf ball for amateurs to use for a great price.

I had a chance to try out the “My Tour Ball” at my home course of Randall Oaks, and will immediately say that it’s one of the best golf balls out there. It’s especially impressive around the greens on the chip and pitch shots.

It doesn’t roll hard, and when you hit a clean shot, it’ll plant itself where you want it. Almost like a heat-seeking missile. It feels great from the tee as well, because when you hit a good shot, you know it, and the Snell ball gives you a boost of confidence on the next shot.

It’s one of the softest golf balls in the sport, making you an instant threat to hit it close from right off the greens. As we know, short game is crucial to the success of anyone’s game, and the Snell balls are tops in this area.

On the green, the ball rolls smoothly, and bounces off the club face beautifully. The perfect align tool on the ball definitely helps you drop some putts.

All in all, the Snell My Tour Ball is the secret weapon in golf ball technology. It’s one of the best balls you’ll play with, and at an affordable price which is refreshing in a sport noted for expensive equipment.

Finally, one of the nice things about the Snell brand is that they do a good job of appealing to the generation of golfers. These aren’t the golf balls of yesteryear, they’re the balls of the future.

FedEx Cup Playoffs: The BMW Championship may be the most important tournament

The BMW Championship is this week right here in Chicagoland. The FedEx Cup Playoffs have risen in popularity and the BMW Championship may be the most important tournament of the playoff season.

The FedEx Cup Playoffs are in full swing and this has been the most exciting year to date. First, it was the Northern Trust Open where we saw one of the best finishes in FedEx Cup history, with Dustin Johnson holding off Jordan Spieth to win.

Then, at the Dell Championship, it was PGA Champion Justin Thomas who grabbed his fifth win of the season, holding off the aforementioned Spieth by three shots. Now, we come to the BMW Championship, one of the oldest and most iconic tournaments on the PGA Tour.

With the tournament returning to Conway Farms, it will undoubtedly be another doozy. Dustin Johnson pulled it off last year, can he pull it off again as he builds his Hall of Fame resume?

It’s anybody’s guess and with golf’s roster of talent deepening, the BW Championship is up for grabs. However, these top betting site picks for golf have Spieth as the top dog at Conway Farms and rightfully so considering that he finished in the top five in the last two tournaments. Johnson is the favorite going into the 2018 Masters Tournament, however, where he can grab his second major.

Spieth still is also the best putter on the planet. Certainly, players like Johnson and Thomas are threats off the tee, but Spieth can crush courses with his legendary putting.

The reason why the BMW Championship is so important on the PGA Tour schedule because of the smaller field, and because of where you go next, after winning which is the Tour Championship at East Lake. All the tournaments in the FedEx Cup Playoffs are crucial, but the BMW gives players that added pressure because they know what’s on the line.

One of the best and toughest golf States in the country, Illinois will prove yet again to be a great test of golf for the pros. Long at the iconic Cog Hill Golf & Country Club, the BMW has had a nice little run at Conway Farms.

Not only that, the BMW will be returning to its founding State, yet again in 2019 at the legendary Medinah Country Club. So one of the coolest golf destinations in the country will be on full display for years to come, and it makes for an epic semi-final host.

At the end of the day, the Tour Championship is still king at East Lake, under the shadow of Atlanta and under the watchful eye of the ghost of Bobby Jones. However, with the BMW Championship being one of the oldest events on the PGA Tour, being created in 1899 (it was the Western Open until the name changed in 2007), and with the top 70 players eager to duke it out, it could be the most important tournament in the playoffs.

With the rich blend of new and veteran talent, the BMW will be more exciting than ever as the FedEx Cup legend grows. It’s going to be a wild finish to the playoffs so hold on to your hats, visors, fedora and anything else you put on your head.

LOOK: Justin Thomas to wear super dope shoes for President’s Cup

Justin Thomas is having the best year of his life playing golf, winning five times, shooting a 59 and winning his first major title at the PGA Championship. He may also grab the Player of the Year award, but he can also grab the Swaggiest Golfer of the Year award too (yes, I made that up), thanks to his cool new shoes that he will rock at the President’s Cup.

Michelle Wie, one of golf’s biggest characters, gave the red hot kicks to Thomas as a gift. This is fitting since Thomas is slowly, but surely becoming more known for his style of dress, similarly to Rickie Fowler is golf’s go-to guy in the fashion department.

In particular, Thomas wore a cardigan at The Open Championship at Royal Birkdale, which was a cool way to give a nod to the golfers of yesteryear. There’s no other major that contributes to the history of the game like The Open as we know, which will soon be the final major of the year, starting in 2019.

Bravo to Michelle Wie. If there’s a girl who has a little swagger in golf, it’s Wie, and she delivered (literally) some dope kicks to Thomas. Get ready to witness all the country colors at the President’s Cup, under the watchful eye of the Statue Liberty.

With both team USA and International team rosters loaded with talent, this one should be a straight up doozy. Prepare for battle.

WATCH: Justin James goes bonkers after winning World Long Drive title

Justin James was a man of few words during post match interviews at the Volvik World Long Drive Championship. The no.3 player in the world woke up after realizing he won the championship belt that’s awarded to winners. After defeating Mitch Grassing in the finals, James went bananas after his winning drive.

He grabbed the belt, ran with it, dropped, and then leaped like a cat into the stands, where he embraced hugs with his family. During his post match interview with Golf Channel’s Jerry Foltz, he had a lot more to say than previously as the sigh of relief consumed him. He was so ecstatic, he gave a shout out to his “super hot wife” as she looked in slight embarrassment.

There’s no doubt Justin James is the happiest man in the world. To go from being all business to becoming the “Snapping Turtle” (his nickname) shows that inner excitement. He didn’t have to do much either, as Grassing, unfortunately never kept his shot in the grid on all eight tries. WIth four balls to go, James was the mailman, and he delivered the package, with a moon shot that soared over 420 yards.

If there’s one way, to end a long drive competition, that’s one way to do it. On the women’s side, Sandra Carlborg captured her fifth title, becoming only the second long driver ever to accomplish this (the great Jason Zuback is the other). She made a case for becoming the greatest long driver of all-time.

Well played you two, and nice celebration Mr. James.

WATCH: Long driver snaps his club during Volvik World Long Drive Championship

The golfers in the world of Long Drive are something special to watch. Sure, there are some haters out there, but the effortless power and the unique swings make it quite the spectacle.

Wes Patterson, who has shocked everyone by upsetting the two best long drivers in the world in Maurice Allen and Ryan Reisbeck in the Volvik World Long Drive Championship. He also has a beautiful swing, but that artistic swing shattered his club into two, hitting a fan.

The fan is fine and may have gotten a little souvenir. So the unranked Patterson has already had his share of highlights.

He also seems to be one of, if not the nicest guy in long drive which is saying a lot, because most of those guys and girls are very respectful and humble despite their intimidating nature. Golf fans may have a new fan favorite in Patterson, but let’s just hope that the next time a club snaps, that it doesn’t fly into the crowd.

That was a close one. Phew.

WATCH: Tiger Woods practices his short game with chip shots

Tiger Woods has been on a quite a roller coaster ride since his last major championship at the 2008 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines. Now, the 14-time major champ looks to make another return to golf after he shared a video on Twitter of him working on his short game, hitting chip shots.

His doctor gave him the OK, which means we will likely see Woods in competitive action again soon. Even with the rapidly growing popularity of Jordan Spieth, Dustin Johnson, Hideki Matsuyama and Justin Thomas among others, a legend such as Woods returning to the game would just add to the purity of what surrounds the sport today.

What makes this interesting is, Woods won’t be the top dog when he returns, but instead, will be chasing players who likely idolized him growing up. Although Spieth has mentioned that the great Adam Scott was his favorite player growing up, some of the other young guns were inspired by Woods.

As I may have said before, although Woods isn’t the same player he once was, having him in tournaments will richen the depth of the field. Having veterans such as Woods, Scott, Phil Mickelson, Henrik Stenson and Sergio Garcia all playing along with the new breed is a nice blend to have in golf.

Not to mention you had a fun duel between Spieth and Matt Kuchar at The Open Championship back in July. That was a prime example of how the young bloods and experienced pros can come together to play some amazing golf.

Keep on hitting those chips Tiger.

A post shared by Garrett Clark & Micah Morris (@gm__golf) on

On this episode of insane golf shots, a couple of dudes decided to hit a golf shot…using a towel. That’s right, you’ve seen ridiculous shots with clubs, but these dudes used a towel to hole a putt.

One of the guys in the trick shot duo, known as GM_Golf (Garrett & Micah Golf) juggled the ball on his wedge before the other whipped the ball with the towel. The ball then rolls its way towards the cup, for an amazing finish.

The celebration afterwards if funny, and after executing such a great shot like that, who wouldn’t celebrate like that? Just because some of these guys are great at trick shots, doesn’t mean they don’t get surprised each time they perform.

Bravo to Garret and Micah for such an excellent display of shot making. Their shot has been added to the list of most crazy golf shots we’ve seen this year alone.

WATCH: Rory McIlroy hits golf shots off of Yankee Stadium

6 iron for my first home run at the @yankees stadium ⚾️🏌🏼

A post shared by RORY (@rorymcilroy) on

When we see golfers hit shots from inside a baseball stadium, it’s so cool because it’s like hitting a home run with a golf club. Rory McIlroy joined the list of numerous golfers who hit golf balls out of a ballpark.

He went to Yankee Stadium to make it happen. As expected, with a 6-iron, McIlroy blasted his shot to center field.

Each year, Petco Park becomes a par-3 golf course, and golf and baseball love affair continues. Rory with his iron shot at Yankee Stadium shows the similarities between the two sports in that you’re hitting small balls with sticks.

And who doesn’t like hitting things with sticks? I’m sure at some point, we’d all love to hit some golf shots out of a ballpark whether MLB or college.

As a White Sox fan, I’d love to hit some shots out of Guaranteed Rate Field. However, a college ballpark would be best because you may not need permission, but who knows, depends on the school I suppose. Happy basegolfing!

What club would you use if you hit out of a ballpark? Let me know on Twitter @ChiGolfRaidio!

Tiger Woods, Lindsey Vonn nude photos leaked, both will take legal action

Hackers are the worst and are digital menaces to society. Unfortunately, Tiger Woods and ex-girlfriend, Ski star Lindsey Vonn have got attacked by the hack monster after some nude photos were leaked between the two.

Woods and Vonn are looking to take legal action against a website that posted the photos, according to Golf Digest. If the site doesn’t remove the pictures, Woods’ lawyer is threatening to sue.

First, Woods was arrested for a DUI, and now, his leaked photos are out there. Not to mention, his struggles on the course pile on top of everything else.

Let this show that, hackers flat out suck. They get pleasure out of making others’ lives miserable. Keep that info protected on your devices, everyone.

A post shared by Alec Barlow’s Trick Shots (@hamblow) on

And golf’s trick shot greatness continues. This time, trick shot artist, Alec Barlow does one of the most acrobatic trick shot you’ll see.

He literally does a backflip over his golf ball while it’s in mid-air, and then he lands and hits it beautifully. This after he tosses the ball, where the ball bounces off a pad, and then he flips over it.

After that, it’s a picture perfect shot. How these guys do these trick shots is amazing, and we just witnessed another dandy right there.

As I mentioned before, this is how creative you can get with golf. In most sports, you can only do so many trick shots but in golf, the possibilities are endless.

You have multiple clubs and locations where you can make any trick shot happen. You just have to use your imagination, and Alec definitely did that to join a long list of great trick shot artists.
