Gary Player on Chambers Bay: “Might be the worst golf course I’ve ever seen”

During an interview with Jason Goff and Matt Spiegal on WSCR 670 The Score in Chicago, Gary Player had some words for the Robert Trent Jones Jr links design.

The Black Knight mentioned that Chambers Bay is “the worst golf course I’ve ever seen”. He’s not the only one, as Chambers Bay has quickly become arguably the most controversial course in U.S. Open history.

Some other things that Gary mention were about Tiger Woods’ struggles and how golf needs him. Due to the great young talent in today’s game, I disagree with Mr. Player. If Tiger’s doing well, and in the hunt the that’s just a bonus although I like seeing different winners.

He also mentioned that golf courses need to be shorter and quicker to play which I agree 150,000% with. The USGA has been doing a terrific job promoting the enjoyment of playing nine holes instead of 18 which is a huge plus.

Gotta love Gary Player man and yes Jason Goff, who wouldn’t want to have Gary on every week to talk about life and how to bring the extra swag out to the course?

Palmer, Nicklaus, Player Tee it Up Again to Open The Masters

OK, I know I might be a tad bit late for this but this is just so awesome. Every year, the likes of Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player all tee it up to open one of the greatest sporting events in the world at The Masters. These gifs show off the still amazing swings of these great legends and their dedication to an amazing golf course. Please be careful and don’t get blinded by all of the greatness!

Pretty cool huh? What was one of the really awesome things about these gifs is that you can see a nice yellow sunrise in the background shining on these legends almost looking like a sunset. It’s shining as if to say that these guys are the greatest to play the game, the legends and pioneers of The Masters. Legends of The Masters such as Ben Hogan, Byron Nelson, Lee Elder, Billy Casper and of course the “masterful” creator of The Masters, Bobby Jones all left their marks on Augusta National and The Masters tournament and Palmer, Nicklaus and Player became kings there. Now go wash your eyes out and clean out all of that greatness! Rub the greatness on your arm or something as a souvenir.

Michelle Wie says she once punched Gary Player

Well folks, here’s one of those “Lol” “roflcopter’ moments. When the ever awesome Ms. Michelle Wie wrote a piece for Golf Digest (Yes, she’s multi-talented), she mentioned of numerous occurrences in her life on and off the course. One of those incidents being kind of random and weird at the same time. Apparently Gary Player who’s known as “Mr.Fitness” asked Michelle if she could punch him in the gut and…well, here’s that portion of the piece, courtesy of Golf Digest

“I WAS AT ANOTHER EVENT with Gary Player. Out of the blue he says, “Michelle, hit me in the stomach.” I didn’t want to punch him, so I kind of poke him instead. He says, “No, I want you to really hit me!” He widens his stance and clenches his stomach. Now I really hit him. I’m no fighter, but I hit him as hard as I could. It hurt my hand. It didn’t faze him. He pointed to his stomach and said, “A thousand sit-ups a day” and kept walking.”

Pretty random if you ask me but the “Black Knight” is one of the most beloved players in golf history so hey I guess you have to respect the great one. Way to go Michelle! Punch him in the face next time! Oh and Gary you’re the man and no I didn’t just tell Michelle to punch you in the face!

Gary Player, others react to passing of political hero Nelson Mandela

The horrible news that broke out that South African leader and worldwide icon Nelson Mandela died at the age of 95. Nelson was not only a phenomenal leader and outstanding human being but he was also big into sports as well as he was an amateur boxer and also did running and other sporting activities. He was known as one of the most courageous men who ever lived and his legacy will live on forever. Gary Player, who’s from South Africa had sent a few tweets about the very iconic leader.

The likes of Christina Kim, Ian Poulter, hall of famer Greg Norman and popular Golf Channel reporter Damon Hack also sent tweets about the legend.

I hope nothing but the best for Nelson’s family and that they know how much we all appreciated him when he was alive. Truly one of the greatest figures who ever lived. What he did for South Africa and the rest of the world was simply outstanding and I hope many young children get to learn more about his greatness when they go through school. It’s a very sad day nut it’s also a day we can celebrate of the man who fought for what was right. Sadly, I never had the chance to meet him but I would have loved to shake his hand, give him a hug and give him a big THANK YOU for what he’s done. And it seems that you never seen him frown.

Always had a smile on his face. Unfortunately, I was too young when he was president of South Africa but I know the things he’s done has helped change the world in the most positive ways. He wanted everyone to love each other equally regardless of who you were or what your skin color was. Do you have Nelson Mandela stories to tell? Did you ever get the chance to meet him? If you didn’t, what would you tell him? Again, we’ll miss you very much and God has blessed you with a very long life and gave you the chance to be remarkable in which you were. Just an absolutely outstanding and inspiring man you were. We love you very much and we miss you. Rest in peace Madiba.
