See, this is why I love college golf. The drama on each hole and team aspect of the sport. Alabama defeated Oklahoma State on Wednesday for its second straight NCAA Men’s Golf title after beating Illinois last year. The last time a team won back-to-back titles was the dangerous Augusta State Jaguars (Now the Georgia Regents Jaguars) who defeated Oklahoma State in 2010 and Georgia in 2011. This putt by Trey Mullinax of Alabama sealed the deal and it was an amazing one that was just off the green. Here’s the video courtesy of GolfChannel.com’s College Central.
Golf Channel did a great job with the coverage and this really helps grow the sport and shows how much fun college golf is to watch and Alabama is already on their way to becoming a college golf dynasty with three straight title appearances and two wins defeating a dangerous Illinois squad and beating an experienced Oklahoma State team. Can’t wait for next year’s NCAA Men’s Golf Championship! College golf is on the rise, there’s no doubt about it.

This is pretty cool. You normally see professional teams get this opportunity but for a college golf team to go to Washington D.C. after winning a championship is pretty cool and they took a very awesome picture by the Capitol building as well. The Alabama Crimson Tide were given this opporunity of a lifetime after defeating Illinois in the NCAA Championship for men’s golf and it is quite a journey for them after the California Golden Bears were the heavy favorites to win it all and in the end they ended beating an Illinois squad coached by possibly one of the best coaches in all of college sports in Mike Small. Below is the sweet pic of the Alabama squad standing in front of the Capitol building!

Well, the Almighty Duff is at it again as he sent a tweet to Tiger Woods that might not bid as well with the world number one golfer. As we know, Duff is a HUGE Auburn fan (Shame on you Mr. Duff! ROLL TIDE! Defending college football AND golf champions! Nick Saben’s a jerk though which sucks…) and I’m sure he would like nothing better to do than go to the SEC championship game between Auburn and Missouri. So now the 11th ranked golfer in the world sent a tweet to Tiger Woods in regards to his event, the World Challenge. Here’s the almighty Duff’s almighty tweet:
Dear Mr @TigerWoods I petition the event this week to play 36 holes Thurs and Friday,so I can watch my beloved Auburn play for SEC champ thx
— Jason Dufner (@JasonDufner) December 2, 2013
Probably the best thing to come out of this tweet is that Duff refers to Tiger as “Mr.Woods” and what did “Mr. Woods” do? Only reply “Petition denied”. Aw come on Tiger, you know you’d watch your precious Stanford Cardinal in the Pac-10 championship if you had the opportunity! Even Pat Perez who’s an Arizona State fan decided to join the party.

Duff’s response after the denied Tiger reply though? Absolutely classic.

Duff, you are one of the coolest, if not THE coolest guy on the PGA Tour. Very well-played sir! If he used one of those bags then it’ll be like those commercials where people are watching football everywhere they go. I can imagine him watching the game while playing golf, if Auburn made a bad play then he’d probably play great because some people perform at things better when they’re playing in frustration. One thing I thought that was cool that he did was speak the Auburn football team during one of the practices and it was really cool how all of the players were respectful and were listening very closely to everything that he was saying and that was very awesome and Duff’s a good speaker too! Below is the video of his words of encouragement for the Auburn Tigers.
Thanks to the Auburn Tigers YouTube page and USA Today for posting the video! Meanwhile I must brace myself for the for the Mac Championship between Northern Illinois and Bowling Green because if NIU wins then they look like they’ll be going to the Fiesta Bowl! Golf and college football, the perfect combination!

College golf is one of the most under rated sports especially since you have college football, basketball and now baseball is getting popular. Yes, all three of those sports are awesome but college golf is unique since it has that team golf atmosphere and I’m a sucker for good team golf action. Sure it doesn’t get big galleries or anything but it’s still fun to watch and to watch the future of the PGA Tour is sweet. Put it simply, college golf rules. Golfweek magazine is the best when it comes to covering high school and college golf and they do an excellent job of it. They updated the latest top 50 teams in the college rankings and some teams may surprise and some may not.
The big surprise is that the no.1 ranked team from last year (Cal Golden Bears) aren’t even in the top 50 and they had a great young team. I actually had a chance to interview the coach of Cal (Steve Desimone) last season and he was a great man and is a legendary coach with over 30 years coaching experience and he’s passionate about the college game. I also have to point out that I’m very pleased to see my beloved Northwestern Wildcats and Alabama Crimson Tide in the top 50. Anyways, enough of my blabbering, I’ll let the rankings talk to you so without further ado, here are the current top 50 college golf teams in the nation courtesy of the fine peeps at GolfWeek:
So, there you have it ladies and gentlemen! Did your favorite school make it? Which team has the best chance of getting future PGA Tour superstars? Do you think Alabama and Illinois will be back in the championship again? Let me know in the comments section!
