Dustin Johnson Suspended for Doing Cocaine, Had Sexual Affairs With PGA Wives

Hyundai Tournament of Champions - Final Round

Uh Ohhh! This is quite a series of events in a very short amount of time. First Dustin Johnson announced that he was taking a leave of absence from the PGA Tour to deal with “personal issues” and now it came out according to Golf.com that he was leaving to seek help for a problem he had with cocaine. The PGA Tour ended up suspending him for six months for doing such substance. DJ has been in trouble before with drug use as he was suspended for marijuana use in 2009, cocaine in 2012, and once again in 2014.

In 2012 and 2014, the years he did the cocaine, he had his strongest major finishes as a pro, finishing tied for 9th at the Open Championship in 2012 and finishing tied for 4th at the U.S. Open this year in 2014 (Which was his best U.S. Open finish). Maybe Dustin needs to play “White Lines” by the Sugar Hill Gang which talks about cocaine and the troubles of it. Here’s his statement courtesy of Golf.com.

“I will use this time to seek professional help for personal challenges I have faced,” he said in a statement issued by his management company. “By committing the time and resources necessary to improve my mental health, physical well-being and emotional foundation, I am confident that I will be better equipped to fulfill my potential and become a consistent champion.”

Dustin’s agent David Winkle, when asked if Dustin would be suspended, texted a Sports Illustrated reporter saying “Don’t believe everything you hear”. Well, Mr. Winkle, I appreciate your efforts of defending your client and all but…he did just get suspended sooo what do you think about that? Dustin will miss the PGA Championship and the Ryder Cup this year which are clearly the biggest events left on the schedule.

The PGA Tour made a short statement on the situation, courtesy of Golf Channel:

“We have nothing to add to Dustin’s statement. But wish him well and look forward to his return to the PGA Tour in the future.”

Thought that was enough? Well wait! There’s more! According to DeadSpin, Dj has been having sexual relationships with a couple of PGA Tour wives. Or “At least one”. Sounds like two or three to me! Here’s a small paragraph mentioning this in Golf.com’s piece:

Johnson’s conduct has long been a topic of conversation among close observers of the Tour. He is often seen in bars near his home in Jupiter, Fla., and is also known to have had a sexual indiscretion with at least one wife of a PGA Tour player.

And Robert Lusetich verified that it was indeed two wives he was messing around with:

Kinda makes you wonder who the women were. Who were their husbands? Popular players? Not so popular? Caddy(HUH?!)? It’s anybody’s guess but this is quite an interesting series of events.

Robert Lusetich had some more to say via his Twitter:

Shane Bacon of Yahoo Sports threw some humor into the situation and I so happen to agree with him:

He also had some warm thoughts as well:

And so do I. I hope nothing but the best for DJ and I think he made a very smart move of leaving golf to deal with these problems because most would just continue doing it instead of getting help. It makes you wonder though, he’s a wealthy PGA Tour golfer (Net Worth of $20 million), he’s one of the longest hitters on Tour, a very popular player, he’s with a woman that most men would love to date and he gets free travel to tournaments. He’s living the dream. He’s living a life that most people could only dream of and he’s using substances that most people use when they’re stressed or depressed to get away from reality.

There’s absolutely no reason why Dustin should be doing this stuff. If he was in certain situations like unfortunately some are, his body would be full of cocaine due to depression. He’s doing this with a wonderful life. I’m glad he made the right decision to seek out help because who knows how far this problem could have went if he just played it off. Get it together DJ! Drugs and having affairs with married women is NOT what life is all about. Take as much time off as you want because this is much bigger than golf.

UPDATE: New statement from the PGA Tour says Dustin Johnson is NOT suspended:

“With regard to media reports that Dustin Johnson has been been suspended by the PGA TOUR, this is to clarify that Mr. Johnson has taken a voluntary leave of absence and is not under a suspension from the PGA TOUR,”

Holly Sonders, No Longer With Golf Channel, Moves to Fox Sports

holly-sonders-golf-channel

Golf journalism superstar Holly Sonders has turned down a contract extension with Golf Channel to join Fox Sports according to GolfWeek. It is expected that she would be a part of Fox Sports new USGA coverage as well as doing some reporting on NFL Sundays. Ever since joining the popular Morning Drive show back in 2011, she became a very popular figure on Golf Channel. She’s reached over 100,000 Twitter followers making her one of the most followed golf journalists on the social media site.

“we didn’t come to terms,” according to a spokesman.

“We wish her the best in her future endeavors,” he said, declining further comment according to GolfWeek.com.

She has been a pressence on NBC’s popular golf network because of her looks as well as her ability to play the game which she showcases in such shows as “Playing Lessons With The Pros” and “School of Golf”.

So who’ll replace her? It’s anybody’s guess at this point, it wouldn’t surprise me if Golf Channel is scrambling for another woman to replace Sonders. Kelly Tilghman, who is extremely versatile might even be a possibility as dudes do love her looks too although she has a “boyish” voice.

WATCH: Rick Reilly Rips Tiger Woods About Being “Cheap”

Rick Reilly is one of the most legendary, wealthiest and successful sportswriters  and he’s also been critical as well and he did just that about Tiger Woods’ bad tipping. He was on Conan to talk about it.

“I’ve covered [Michael Jordan] his whole career, but I don’t think he can hold a candle to Tiger Woods. You need a court order to get Tiger’s wallet open. It’s unbelievable. He’s always like, ‘I don’t carry cash.’ I know a valet here in town that stands between Tiger and his car just to get his $2. He’s really terrible. I’ve seen Phil Mickelson buy a 50-cent cup of a lemonade from a little girl and give her $100. When he leaves the Masters each year, he gives the guys $2,500. Tiger gives them nothing. I was with Phil once, and it was raining. He sees a homeless guy, and he gets out, parks his car and gets out his umbrella to give to the guy. Tiger would charge the guy!”

play the video at 3:53 to hear the thought.

Someone with Tiger’s money should be tipping and this isn’t a new thing as Tiger was known for being kind of cheap when he wouldn’t let his then wife Elin Nordegren leave a tip at a restaurant a few years back. Who wouldn’t leave a tip with that kind of money?

WATCH: Jimmy Walker Hits a Bird With His Tee Shot at Colonial

Can you say “Deadeye”? Jimmy Walker, one of the top golfers on the planet right now hit an iron tee shot at the Crowne Plaza Invitational that hit a bird bouncing off of it and landing in the fairway. Thankfully, the bird wasn’t hurt. Jimmy who has won three times in 2013 and 2014 combined (Twice in 2014) is a strong candidate to be the leader of the U.S. Ryder Cup team with only 2014 Masters champion Bubba Watson ahead of him in the standings. Here’s the video of the ball hitting the bird.

And here’s his tweet after seeing the video:

Let’s just say Jimmy got himself a “birdie” shall we? We can also say that he’s been “DYNO-MITE!” this week too!

WATCH: The Amazing Putt That Won Martin Kaymer The Players Championship

bei-martin-kaymer-geht-es-wieder-aufwaerts-in-der-weltrangliste-platz-28-

Martin Kaymer won The Players Championship on Sunday and he had moments of comfort when he was at one point leading by four strokes to moments of a nerve-wracking tight leaderboard. However, on one of the most, if not the most iconic hole in all of golf, Martin nailed a putt for the ages at The Players showing his clutch. Check out the video below.

Martin has only two wins on the PGA Tour but both of them were very significant as his first victory came in 2010 at the PGA Championship and now at The Players which is widely regarded as golf’s “fifth major”. Martin has 11 wins on the European Tour and two huge wins on PGA Tour giving him hall of fame caliber numbers. Although he’s been quiet the last few years, Martin Kaymer and the putt he nailed on 17 is a reminder of why he’s still one of the most dangerous players in all of golf.

WATCH: Euro Tour Golfer Pablo Larrazabal Gets Chased by Bees, Jumps in Lake

This is definitely scary. Anytime a bee is showing interest in you, it’s quite an “Ah!” moment. But when a SWARM of bees all want to sting the crap out of you then that’s when you run for your life, or in the case of European Tour golfer Pablo Larrazabal, fight them off with your towel like a badass and then run and jump in a lake. Check out the video courtesy of Fox Sports!

I tell you what, the dude’s name is pretty awesome. It’s like “What’s your name foo?”. “Larrazabal biotch.” The amazing thing is that he over came it and nailed a birdie. What a boss.

Bubba Watson Wins 2014 Masters For His Second Green Jacket

bubba-watson-2014-masters-champion

Bubba Watson won his second Masters in three years by defeating Jordan Spieth by two strokes. It was an amazing battle between Bubba Watson and Jordan Spieth through the first 12 holes but Bubba Watson with his incredible power off the tee on the 13th hole led him to a birdie while Jordan had to save par. That’s when the momentum went Bubba’s way. Jonas Blixt and Matt Kuchar put up an impressive fight to try to catch the two red-hot golfers but it the end, it was Bubba Watson winning his second Masters in just three years. Bubba had an unbelievable 10 one putts and that really helped him prevail as he had so so day on the putting greens on Saturday.

Bubba is now tied with Arnold Palmer for least attempts at The Masters to win his second time at six appearances and two wins. Despite Jordan’s red-hot start and despite Jonas and Matt’s impressive outings, Bubba who was hanging in there with Jordan who had a two shot lead at the time and eventually caught up to him with some key second shots and putts. Bubba was also very impressive off the tee hitting several fairways and Jordan was hitting incredible recovery shot after incredible recovery shot. Probably one of the best displays of escape in Masters history by the 20-year-old.

So, Bubba Watson wins his second green jacket in three years and that’s simply incredible. Who would have thought Bubba would come in and win another green jacket? It’s amazing what Bubba can do in this sport. No fear, takes gambles, and executes them very well. With his second Masters win, Bubba becomes only the 17th player in golf history to win The Masters twice.

So, what a battle between Bubba Watson and Jordan Spieth, a battle for the ages. What an effort by Jordan. Absolutely phenomenal playing. There’s no doubt he’ll win majors with that incredible skill. Some of the recovery shots were mind-boggling and he was dead on off the tee. So, a great effort by Jordan Spieth, Matt Kuchar, and Jonas Blixt and it was Bubba who came out on top.

Bubba Watson is your 2014 Masters champion!

LPGA Commissioner on Paulina Gretzky Cover: “We’re Disappointed and Frustrated”

LPGA Tour Commissioner Mike Whan

LPGA Tour Commissioner Mike Whan

The latest Golf Digest cover stirred some controversy with Dustin Johnson’s fiance Paulina Gretzky rocking the cover posing with a golf club in yoga pants. Gretzky is also the daughter of hockey legend Wayne Gretzky and came to fame when she started taking selfies of herself on Twitter although she was apparently already doing some modeling. There were angered LPGA Tour players that showed their disgust about the cover.

Yeah, this cover!

Yeah, this cover!

two time major winner and former world no.1 Stacy Lewis on the cover according to Karen Krause of the New York times: “It’s frustrating for female golfers. It’s kind of the state of where we’ve always been. We don’t get respect for being the golfers that we are. Obviously, Golf Digest is trying to sell magazines. But at the same time you’d like to see a little respect for the women’s game.”

Hall of fame Juli Inkster on the cover also according to Karen Krause: “It’s frustrating because it’s Golf Digest; it’s not Sports Illustrated’s swimsuit issue,” Inkster said, adding: “I think they should maybe recognize some of the great women golfers that we have. It’s like, What do you have to do to get a little respect? I’m guaranteeing you right now, it was not a woman editor who chose that cover.”

Even Inbee Park who I have mad respect for and is one of my favorite players now after she absolutely terrorized, destroyed and back-handed the golf world last season after nearly becoming the first golf ever to win all four majors in a year. She ended up with three. She simply said when asked about the cover, “Who’s that”? according to Karen Krause. “That’s just been the way it is for over 20, 30 years.” Inbee said shrugging.

And now, even the LPGA Commisoner stepped up and made a statement about the cover. This, from LPGA.com:

“Obviously we’re disappointed and frustrated by the editorial direction (and timing) Golf Digest has chosen with the announcement of its most recent magazine cover.

If a magazine called Golf Digest is interested in showcasing females in the game, yet consistently steers away from the true superstars who’ve made history over the last few years, something is clearly wrong.

Inbee Park wins 3-straight major championships in 2013. Stacy Lewis, in 2012, becomes the first American to win Rolex Player of the Year since 1994. Lexi Thompson and Lydia Ko set historical benchmarks while blossoming as the Tour’s youngest ever champions. And evidently, not one has been “cover worthy” for Golf Digest. “Growing the game” means a need for more role models and in these exciting times for women’s golf, the LPGA is overflowing with them.

At this point, I’m done talking about it and I hope the attention of the media and fans will shift in the proper direction. The true stars representing women’s golf have a grand stage this weekend at the Kraft Nabisco Championship. I’m confident that the year’s first major championship will result in another compelling champion and the traditional Sunday leap into Poppie’s Pond will grab the media spotlight it so deserves.”

Those were the words of LPGA Tour commissioner Mike Whan.

So, what’s your thoughts on the commish’ statement? Do you agree? Disagree? In my opinion, I could agree with it but at the same time, Kate Upton was on a recent cover of Golf Digest too (She fine yo) although she was with Arnold Palmer. Also, like Inbee said, stuff like this has been going for years so why complain about it now? It can go either way at this point but in general, I definitely think the LPGA needs some more love because it’s a great tour with great players but that’s just a general statement. Leave your thoughts on this controversial story below! This should be fun.

Tiger Woods to Miss Masters for the First Time, Still Believes He Can Break Records

TigerWoodsAnchor

Is it too late to cancel Masters picks? Tiger Woods will miss the Masters for the first time in his unbelievable career and the Masters has been a landmark tournament for Woods as it was where he won his first major back in 1997. According to Yahoo Sports, Tiger underwent a microdiscectomy for a pinched nerve on Monday. Woods said that the microdiscectomy was successful but will take a few weeks to fully recover making a Masters appearance out of the question.

“After attempting to get ready for the Masters, and failing to make the necessary progress, I decided, in consultation with my doctors, to have this procedure done,” Woods said according to Yahoo Sports.

“It also looks like I’ll be forced to miss several upcoming tournaments to focus on my rehabilitation and getting healthy … this is frustrating, but it’s something my doctors advised me to do for my immediate and long-term health.”

it seems like we’ve seen players drop like flies lately. First, Tiger, then Jason Day, then Bubba Watson and then Phil. What’s going on this year? Will anyone else withdraw from the Masters? He’s had some of his best finishes at the Masters and Augusta is one of his favorite courses in the world (Well, who wouldn’t think that?) so this is quite a blow for the sport and for Tiger. However, there’s a lot of positives as well. Although, you hope that the man is okay, this gives us a chance to view the Masters and a whole other level, introducing us to possible surprises and the spotlight won’t be all over Tiger. Again, I hope he gets well but at the same time this gives other players a chance to shine on arguably golf’s biggest stage with only the Ryder Cup possibly being more prestigious. I think it makes things more interesting now. Below is another quote from Tiger that may shock you.

“There are a couple [of] records by two outstanding individuals and players that I hope one day to break. As I’ve said many times, Sam and Jack reached their milestones over an entire career. I plan to have a lot of years left in mine.” Woods said according to Yahoo Sports.

Obviously he’s talking about Sam Snead’s all-time career wins mark and Jack Nicklaus’ record of 18 major championships.

He’ll surpass Slammin Sammy Snead’s record easily but I feel at this point that there’s almost no way he’ll break Jack’s record. he needs four majors to tie and five to break it. It’s anything but impossible at this point. I mean, people are wondering if he’ll ever win another major period so how would he get five? I feel that he’ll at least have a shot at winning another major before his career’s over but not five. When you can’t play in a tournament that you’ve played in every year, you know that’s not a good sign. He’ll win tournaments, absolutely will maybe even a major but I can’t see him breaking that record. Tiger’s last major title was at the 2008 U.S. Open at another course he loves dearly in Torrey Pines where he and Rocco Mediate put on a show for the ages and is widely regarded as one of the greatest performances in golf history the way they were battling.

Phil Mickelson might not make the Masters either however according to Yahoo Sports. What the heck is going on out there?! Tiger, Phil, who’s next?!

Tiger Woods Has Bulging Disk, Could This be The End of an Era?

Tiger-Woods-Withdraws-Arnold-Palmer-Invitational

For the second time in his career, Tiger Woods has a bluging disk according to legendary golf writer Jeff Rude of GolfWeek. Fortunately for Woods, he will not need surgery and the Masters is not out of the question according to someone with knowledge of the injury. Woods had already withdrew from the Arnold Palmer invitational after suffering back spasms. Now he has a bulging disk once again. The last time he had a bulging disk, popular golf reporter Win Mcmurry accidentally said “bulging d*ck” instead of “bulging disk” which led to many people saying things like “Ohh, she wants the D!” while some were impressed that she kept going but she is one of the best so it wasn’t a surprise that she handled it like a pro.

Although Rude says that someone with knowledge of the injury had said that it could have been worse, it still adds to the numerous injuries he’s had. Rude also mentions that Woods had said that the knee which had been surgically repaired four times s much different from the back issues. He mentions that Woods said that he feels the back pain during the swing and the knee pain after the swing.

With his knee still bothering him and now back problems although he doesn’t need surgery, it makes you kind of wonder, are we close to the end of an era? His ultra glory days have been gone but he did win five tournaments last year. Is the success of the second half of his career coming to end as well? He’ll win tournaments before 50 but will we see him win multiple tournaments in a year again? Only time will tell but if you’re having knee problems and back problems at the young age of 38 then that’s usually not a good sign. His youth is what’s going to help him at best. Despite his golf injuries, he’s a healthy young dude but withdrawing from two tournaments in the young PGA Tour season when you’re the best golfer in the world is not a good thing for several reasons.

Will he even be able to play the Masters this year? This is the one thing that many people have been wondering and has been a hot topic of choice. The Masters will be fantastic with or without Woods with so much young talent and returning veterans on the course but The Masters is where Woods name stands out the most. It was where he won his very first major back in 1997, he hit one of the best shots in golf history there in 2005. The Masters is where he left the biggest impact. Let’s hope that he recovers from the bulging disk but it’s pretty clear to say that we’ve probably seen the last of a great era in the sport of golf.

Good thing for Tiger fans is, he’ll be on the PGA Tour for at least another 12 to 13 years before joining the Champions Tour and he’ll still have a huge impact on the sport even if he never wins another tournament which is highly unlikely. The great thing for the sport is that there is so much young talent coming up and great golfers coming out of top college golf programs like Alabama, California, Illinois, and Oklahoma State. Plus, remember, the Tour still has Rory Mcilroy. Although he’s had some problems as of late, he’s still very young so he has time to turn it around. Let’s see what happens with Tiger and the other players as Masters week is nearly in our reach.
