WATCH: Rickie Fowler Makes Awesome Tribute to Payne Stewart at the U.S. Open

Rickie Fowler is one of the classiest guys in golf and he decided to pay tribute to his hero and one of the coolest and best players in golf history in Payne Stewart. Rickie wore knickers and a classic golf cap like Payne did and it was so fitting since Payne’s last major title was at Pinehurst at the U.S. Open. Sadly, he died in a plane crash just three months after the U.S. Open win where he famously stared Phil Mickelson in the eye (Phil was the runner-up) and told him “You’re going to be a dad!” making that image one of the most iconic in sports history. Payne won three major titles including two U.S. Opens and a PGA Championship. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2001. Here’s the video of Rickie rocking Payne’s iconic attire courtesy of GolfChannel.com.

Here’s his tweet as well:

Rickie, you rock for doing this. Seriously, because Payne Stewart was the man, on and off the course and could have easily one a couple of more majors if he was still around.

Below are some of Payne’s most memorable images:

Golf Channel also had a documentary on Payne just a few days ago and it was outstanding.
