2013 PGA Tour: More President’s Cup Chatter

The President's Cup is back again and it should be another fun tournament.

The President’s Cup is back again and it should be another fun tournament.

Hello guys, I’m back FINALLY after my short absence. I was working on changing the GP Golf Report from WordPress.com to WordPress.org and it took me awhile to put it all together (And I still have some things I need to do!) but man, was it worth it. There’s much more freedom to using a WordPress.org blog and it is so sweet, I kind of feel like a little kid in a candy store because it’s filled with so many different options for website customization and I love it so far. Using this new blog also can help grow the GP Nation as there are more ways than ever to reach out to the world and I’m going to make sure to deliver the best content possible in the golf journalism world. Anyway, enough about me, let’s get into some more President’s Cup talk shall we?Β It’s coming around the corner and team USA looks to dominate yet again.

Although beautiful and breathtaking, Muirfield will be a challenge for these players so please be careful when smelling the environment kids.

Although beautiful and breathtaking, Muirfield will be a challenge for these players so please be careful when smelling the environment kids.

I know I’ve probably already mentioned some things in my previous post but I don’t see why team USA could come out on top again. There are so many weapons on team USA that the International team wouldn’t be ready for. Yes, the International squad has a few dangerous weapons like Adam Scott and Jason Day but the rest of the roster is pretty much full of President’s Cup rookies. Having veterans is key when in a team event like the President’s Cup or Ryder Cup and although being a veteran doesn’t necessarily mean your team s going to win, but it just has an experienced presence out there for a lot of the rookies and that’s a great reason to pick team USA. I think the International squad will be exciting to watch with a bunch of new players on the team alongside a hall of famer in Ernie Els and a future hall of famer in Adam Scott. So, it should be a good one! Looking forward to it and I know you guys are too. Keep it real all, from Chicago with love. Also, if you enjoyed this post and if you like the website, then please subscribe and you’ll be receiving every new post I write!

The GP, Sent to You by Email

Hey guys, do you enjoy the GP Golf Report? Well now you can receive content through email! At times, I will post pieces through email as this is a quick way to write post and is a great way to write while on the go! You can expect the same content that you enjoy from the GP Golf Report with more great stories on the PGA Tour and anywhere else in the golf world. There’s a also a certain golf video game to look for as well ;). I hope you guys are looking forward to a terrific President’s Cup after we saw some spectacular golf at the Tour Championship. Who’s going to step up on both teams? It’s going to be very fun to see no doubt. I absolutely LOVE team events in golf because there is so much energy and excitement after every swing of the club and it’s so beautiful. I definitely love the Ryder Cup though because it’s like an Olympics for golf (Hey, mark your calender for 2016 though!) and I love it.

The way the teams show pride for their countries and all of the drama that’s in it is simply incredible and the President’s Cup is also a terrific event in golf. In other news, Tiger Woods won PGA Tour Player of the Year. I was’t surprised though because he’s Tiger Woods. It’s a reputation thing and that’s why he won. I honestly thought Phil Mickelson or Adam Scott should have won the award to me, a major and a win looks much prettier and shinier than just five wins. Not to mention both of them had seven top 10’s so I thought one of those guys were more deserving but hey, it is what it is I guess. Anyway, thanks for reading my post/email and if you like my work you can always press the “Follow” button on the left side of your screen and also, please share the site with your friends on Twitter and Facebook, I’d appreciate any support I can get because without you guys I am absolutely nothing, nada, zero! You can also click any of the social media icons on the left of your screen to follow me on Twitter, “Like” the GP Golf Report on Facebook and follow the GP Golf Report on Google Plus! Thanks guys, always appreciate the support! Keep it real GP Nation! From Chicago with love!

Stenson Wins the FedEx Cup and the 10 Mil

Henrik Stenson Raises his Trophies in Triumph as he is your 2013 FedEx Cup Champion

After Jorda Speith's Impressive Performance at the Tour Championship, Could this be the Making of a Golf Superstar?

After Jorda Speith’s Impressive Performance at the Tour Championship, Could this be the Making of a Golf Superstar?

Henrk Stenson went wire to wire to win the Tour Championship and take the FedEx Cup. He didn’t have the best performance he’s had the first three rounds but he still played well enough to hang on for the win beating Steve Stricker and the emerging star of Jordan Speith. Speith couldn’t help but watch, as Stenson hit a bunker shot which led to a par and the victory which earned Stenson 11 million dollars total. Is this the rise and return of the Stenson we saw around 2006, 2007? Only time will tell but a performance like that deserves some attention as he will definitely be a guy to look out for going into next season. Stricker was trying to make a charge but failed to do so but still put up a solid effort.

Speith also had a great chance and doing so and if he managed to knock off Stenson for the win, Speith would end up having one of the more dominant rookie seasons in golf history if he finished with two wins with one of them being a major caliber tournament. So, it makes you wonder, can Speith have a Rory Mcilroy type of season next year? Can he win a few tournaments and maybe even win a major? Only time will tell but he’ very talented and it’s exciting to see a kid out there with no fear of any golfer and just giving it his all every time. He’ll likely have another great season next year too. Right now though, Henrik Stenson is your 2013 FedEx Cup champion. Here’s the final leaderboard: http://www.pgatour.com/leaderboard.html

Tour Championship 2013: Can Stenson go Wire to Wire?

Ooohhh! Sooo Shiiny! This is what the Players are After!

Ooohhh! Sooo Shiiny! This is what the Players are After!

After three rounds, Henrik Stenson remains your leader and has played some tremendous golf. However, he had a massive nine stroke lead over Dustin Johnson and would’ve put this thing away a day early barring an amazing collapse during Sunday’s finale. If he strikes the ball like he did the first three days then he’ll defnitely walk away with the FedEx Cup and the 10 million dollars. Can he go wire to wire and pull out the victory? That would be very interesting to see no doubt.

One of the best wire to wire performances I remember was when Jason Bohn came out of nowhere to go wire to wire to win the Zurich Classic and that was pretty sweet considering who he was. Henrik can run away with it but we must remember that Dustin Johnson is the best on Tour when it comes to eagle opportunities (Pretty boss huh) and that’s a major advantage he has over Stenson. Steve Stricker is good at every category except for driving distance but as I’ve said, East Lake is a control players’ course anyway so I can’t see why Stricker wouldn’t be in the middle of this either.

Yup Ben Frank, There will be a Bunch of you given to the Winner of this Tournament!

Yup Ben Frank, There will be a Bunch of you given to the Winner of this Tournament!

So right now, it’s a battle between Henrik, DJ and Strick on who wins this year’s FedEx Cup but if Henrik keeps up his play and not fall apart on the back nine then this tournament is a wrap folks! I hope you’re ready for an exciting finish as some of the best players in the world try to win that shiny trophy and get them big dollars (Dolla dolla bill ya’ll!). Here’s the leaderboard update to keep you up to speed: http://msn.foxsports.com/golf/leaderboard?ocid=ansfoxrel1

Tour Championship 2013: Stenson Dominates Again

How Long can Henrik Stenson Hold on to this Lead?

How Long can Henrik Stenson Hold on to this Lead?

Day two is wrapped up for this year’s “Super Bowl of Golf” and the man who started out this tournament red hot is still leading after finishing his round with a terrific run, sinking five birdies to really take charge. He’s a comfortable four shots ahead of second place Adam Scott who is -6 for the tournament. Jordan Speith surprised some folks with a charge placing him third on the leaderboard being five shots behind Stenson. Another surprise is seeing Dustin Johnson within the top 10 and for a control player course, East Lake wasn’t able to hold down arguably one of the best power hitters in golf history in DJ who finished -4 along with Billy Horschel and U.S. Open Champion and future hall of famer Justin Rose.

the COCA COLA! the COCA CO- Oh! Sorry guys! Didn't see you there! Uh, the Tour Championship is Sponsored by Coke so that's why I have it up.....

the Ice Cold Coke. The COCA COLA! the COCA CO- Oh! Sorry guys! Didn’t see you there! Uh, the Tour Championship is Sponsored by Coke so that’s why I have it up…..

BMW Championship winner Zach Johnson and Steve Stricker who came into this event as favorites and are -3 for the tournament and still can get into contention if Stenson starts slowing down a bit. At this point though, the only person I really see staying into contention with Stenson is Adam Scott who, like I said before, can heat up at any moment. The only thing I would have to say is how clutch can he be?he would pretty much have to be matching Henrik shot for shot to catch up to him and take the lead. The biggest question is, how long can Henrik keep up this spectactular playing? Only time will tell. Here’s the full leaderboard

Henrik Leads Tour Championship After Round One

Henrik Stenson Starting off Strong After a 4- Finish After the First Round. Can he Keep it Going?

Henrik Stenson Starting off Strong After a 4- Finish After the First Round. Can he Keep it Going?

Me After I Correctly Predicted that Steve Stricker Would Start off Hot at the Tour Championship...Thanks Crash Bandicoot!

Me After I Correctly Predicted that Steve Stricker Would Start off Hot at the Tour Championship…Thanks Crash Bandicoot!

After round one, the “Underwear Bandit” strikes again! Henrik Stenson is your leader after finishing with a solid -6 performance after striking the ball very well and making putts when it mattered. MVP candidate Adam Scott is right on his trail however after he had a terrific round where he led the field in average driving distance and was still as accurate as he had been when he at the Masters. Surely we should expect a great tournament from Adam and he knows how to stay in contention throughput an entire tournament and he’s proven that all year long. Every tournament you looked on a leaderboard, you saw Adam Scott on there. He’s capable of hitting powerful and accurate shots. But Henrik Stenson was the star of the day after hitting four shots within five feet displaying incredible ball striking Henrik Stenson has always had and really showed it today after the first round of the Tour Championship. His ball striking was so good that he didn’t really have to worry about his putting and that’s how you win tournaments. If you could set yourself up in a great position for an easy putt then the chances of you winning the tournament are very high unless you one of those players who have trouble with short putts which happen all the time. My pick Steve Stricker is in third as he went -4.

1,000+ Hits Strong! Keep it Going Guys! Keep Sharing and Viewing, it Really Does Help! :)

1,000+ Hits Strong! Keep it Going Guys! Keep Sharing and Viewing, it Really Does Help! πŸ™‚

See? What did I say? I was saying that Steve will come out the gate flying and start off with a bang like “Boomshakalaka” because after he collapsed at the BMW Championship, he doesn’t want nothing else better than to win golf’s Super Bowl. I’ll be sure to have another piece on the tournament tomorrow so keep it locked right here on the GP Golf Report for more analysis and news. Share this article with your friends and let them know who’s leading this tournament! Here’s the full leaderboard: TC Leaderboard. Also, real quick, I’d like to proudly announce that the GP Golf Report has reached over 1,000 hits! Thank you so much guys for reading the site and I hope you guys continue to come back! I’ve been working hard to keep everything up to date and to write as often as I can, without you guys, I’m nothing but a blogger with hopeless dreams. You guys make me and I hope you guys join me a lot more as we discuss this great sport we call golf and to bring a different look to the game and to bring quality writing to you. Who will Win the Player of the Year?

Adam Scott had Arguably his Best Season in 2013 and Looks to Dominate Again Next Year.

Adam Scott had Arguably his Best Season in 2013 and Looks to Dominate Again Next Year.

We have seen some great golf this year and it’s been very fun to watch. From Australian flags covered in Masters green to U.S. Open heartbreak to 59’s, this season has definitely been one to reflect on and hopefully we’ll see more in the next season but the one question a lot of fans may be asking is, who is this year’s Player of the Year? You’d think you’d have at least four or five players to choose from but honestly, there’s only two to choose from. Those guys being Phil Mickelson and Adam Scott. I know people will be like “Bu- Bu- but, wha- whaat about Tiger?!”. Well, Tiger has five regular wins and NO majors this year and I think one major is the equivalent of three maybe four wins, plus a major has much more weight on it. If Tiger isn’t in the conversation then the “Tiger heads” will go head hunting but I just don’t see it, if he does win it then that’s because the media and networks will get more views and reads and listens which generates more presidents, paper, cheddar, or in other words, that green piece of paper we call money. That’s the only reason why he would win and you know the big networks that cover all sports will vote for Tiger because that’s pretty much all they know about golf with many acting like they know golf but they have to throw Tiger in every sentence.

Phil Mickelson Continues to Add to his Legendary Resume After Having Another Great Season.

Phil Mickelson Continues to Add to his Legendary Resume After Having Another Great Season.

If he won a major this year combined with the wins he has then he would be a runaway for POY but he didn’t win one so that’s why it’s down to two guys. The crazy thing about this that makes this such a tough decision is that both Adam and Phil have seven top 10 finishes (Including their victories, excluding the victories, they have five) and they both have one major and one regular win so it makes it very difficult to decide. Let’s look at like this; Phil’s major win was more dominant making his a bit more significant in my opinion while Adam had to go into a playoff against Angel Cabrera at the Masters BUT I’d say Adam winning the Barclays was more significant than Phil winning the Waste Management Open. So, at this point it’s kind of up in the air but I must make a decision because well, I don’t want to keep anyone in suspense so I think the winner of the 2013 PGA Tour Player of the Year will be…..Phil Mickelson. Because, again he was pretty dominant in his major victory and yes the Masters is a tad bit more prestigious but the Open Championship is the oldest and the way Phil took down a course that was destroying the players was amazing. Not to mention out of the seven to 10’s between the two, Phil look much sweeter as he has finished in the top 5 in all of his top 10 finishes except for the Barclays where he finished in 6th. So, I think will Phil will take the crown and add to his more to his hall of fame career. It seems like the guy continues to get better and he’s only a U.S. Open victory away from a career grand slam. Can he do it? So Phil Mickelson will be your 2013 PGA Tour Player of the Year. Write in the comments on who YOU think will win!

FedEx Cup 2013: Tour Championship Prediction

BMW Championship Winner May be a Guy to Look Out for During the Tour Championship

BMW Championship Winner May be a Guy to Look Out for During the Tour Championship

With the Tour Championship around the corner, it should be a classic and many players will have the opportunity of taking the crown and as we know, East Lake Golf Club is very beautiful but can be a challenge on any given weekend. This week’s jaw dropping field will include Adam Scott, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, BMW Championship winner Zach Johnson, long drive machine Dustin Johnson and Mr. 59 Jim Furyk as well as many others and like I’ve said before, they will all be fighting for it as we’ve seen many players with missed opportunities and they would love to do nothing else better then to get a win in the last big tournament of the season. There are many great players to watch out for and I would almost pick Zach Johnson again but as we all know, it’s tough to win in back to back weeks and since it’s the last big tournament of the year, every player in this field will be going blow for blow and I don’t think Zach would be ready for it. Also, another thing to keep in mind is that Phil and Steve Stricker have been in every Tour Championship in its seven year history so these guys have a ton of experience at this tournament and will be threats to steal the show despite Phil being fairly quiet recently. The one thing about the Tour Championship is that you just never know who will win as we’ve seen before so it’s anyone’s golf tournament but I have a feeling that one of the top players will take it as there have been many missed opportunities for some of them so they’re very thirsty. Some are even looking for their first win of the season.

Could Jim Furyk Repeat History Again? Furyk is a Former Tour Championship Winner.

Could Jim Furyk Repeat History Again? Furyk is a Former Tour Championship Winner.

The guy I’m taking is one of the guys who I said has been in every Tour Championship and that is Steve Stricker. He’s quietly been one of the best players on Tour this year and I’m sure he really wants to get that first win at the Tour Championship and there won’t be no better time than now to do so. He has a ton of experience at this tournament and this is his chance to show that experience and to take down anyone in his way. He’s also overall, had a good FedEx Cup playoffs and if he can just turn it up a notch in the Tour Championship then he will definitely take the title. He’s going to have an advantage after coming off a solid performance at the BMW Championship. So keep an eye out for Steve Stricker as he tries to make an attempt to get his first FedEx Cup title. So who do you have winning the FedEx Cup this week? Also, check out MadeForGolf.com for more golfing goodness with stories written by the very talented Ryan Chapman. Check him out, it’ll be worth it! PGA Tour 2013: And the Winner of the BMW Championship is…..

Zach Johnson Holding the Trophy After a Fantastic Display of Golf on Sunday at the BMW Championship.

Zach Johnson Holding the Trophy After a Fantastic Display of Golf on Sunday at the BMW Championship.

Accurate golfers have been the hot players at this year’s BMW Championship as we’ve seen Jim Furyk, Steve Stricker and Zach Johnson dominate the field but only one can come out on top. Many, including myself thought Jim Furyk had a legitimate chance to pull it out but it was former Masters champion Zach Johnson who came out victorious. Zach showcased his amazing accuracy off the tee and in the fairway as he is known for and finished strong with a 16 under par win. Behind him, almost coming out of nowhere was Nick Watney who finished with an amazing 7 under score for the day. Nick, who’s one of the more powerful hitters off the tee showed a great display golf which could have easily been his victory. Watney is also one of the best on Tour when it comes to hitting the greens from the fairway as he is 13th on Tour in that category and he was certainly taking advantage. I think Zach just handled the pressure better which he can do at times and being a player as accurate as he is definitely helps a lot. Zach was on fire all day and finished with a terrific 65 on the day while Watney shot a phenomenal 64.

Johnson looks to have the edge going into the Tour Championship after his stellar performance and to knock off a streaking Jim Furyk. Watney will also hae some moment as he had the best round of the day despite coming up short of the victory and Watney may have slightly more tools in the bag as he too is fairly accuarte and he has a little more pop in his driver however one main advantage that Johnson has over Watney is his putting. Watney is not very good on the greens but his accuracy with his ions and wedges help him get close enough to the cup for an easy putt but if he has a long putt then it could be trouble for him. Johnson has a much better chance to make putts from 20 or more feet out and that’s a huge advantage to go along with his incredible accuracy. Jim Furyk ended up collapsing, finishing with round of 71 falling three shots back of Johnson. So, the Tour Championship should be fun as there should be a ton of blood (Or Coca Cola) thirsty players looking to reedeem themselves after having a shot at the BMW. You can view the full BMW Championship leaderboard by clicking here, courtesy of Fox Sports.
